To Be Alone With You

I'd swim across lake Michigan
I'd sell my shoes
I'd give my body to be back again
In the rest of the room

To be alone with you
To be alone with you
To be alone with you
To be alone with you

You gave your body to the lonely
They took your clothes
You gave up a wife and a family
You gave your goals

To be alone with me
To be alone with me
To be alone with me
You went up on a tree

To be alone with me you went up on the tree

I'll never know the man who loved me

(Sufjan Stevens, "To Be Alone With You", Seven Swans, Rough Trade/Sanctuary, 2004)

Laconico il commento: "How queer!"

Mi raccomando andate tutti a vederci ;-)

This is not one of my light-hearted zingers. It's a zinger, but a heart-breaker: A 21-month-old little boy, Will Lacey, the grandson of dear friends of mine, Ginny and Mike Gammino, has neuroblastoma, a childhood cancer. He and his family are living a nightmare right now, as you can imagine. I am sending this to everyone I know for these reasons: to raise awareness of neuroblastoma, to ask for your prayers for Will--even to put him on a prayer list at your church or temple--and, if you're so inclined, to make a donation in Will's name to the Jimmy Fund at the Dana Farbar Cancer Institute in Boston.

Life isn't fair, but Will is a fighter and a hero. So are his mom, his father, and his family. Below are the links for Will's site and his blog, where Will's parents, Dina and Patrick, give updates on his condition. (Writing about Will helps them a bit as they struggle through their trial.)

And one more request: Please pass this e-mail on to anyone you know who is, or knows of someone, suffering through a life-threatening affliction. It may help them to know they are not alone.

Canterò il tuo nome come la valle
canta l'eco delle campane;
ascolterò il linguaggio della tua anima

Ariel

Stasis in darkness.
Then the substanceless blue
Pour of tor and distances.

God's lioness,
How one we grow,
Pivot of heels and knees! ---The furrow

Splits and passes, sister to
The brown arc
Of the neck I cannot catch,

Nigger-eye
Berries cast dark
Hooks ---

Black sweet blood mouthfuls,
Shadows.
Something else

Hauls me through air ---
Thighs, hair;
Flakes from my heels.

White
Godiva, I unpeel ---
Dead hands, dead stringencies.

And now I
Foam to wheat, a glitter of seas.
The child's cry

Melts in the wall.
And I
Am the arrow,

The dew that flies,
Suicidal, at one with the drive
Into the red
Eye, the cauldron of morning.

Take my Hand

Touch my skin, and tell me what you’re thinking
Take my hand and show me where we’re going
Lie down next to me, look into my eyes and tell me, oh tell me what you’re seeing
So sit on top of the world and tell me how you’re feeling
What you feel now is what I feel for you
Take my hand and if I’m lying to you
I’ll always be alone
If I’m lying to you
See my eyes, they carry your reflection
Watch my lips and hear the words I’m telling you
Give your trust to me and look into my heart and show me, show me what you’re doing
So sit on top of the world and tell me how you’re feeling
What you feel now is what I feel for you

Take my hand and if I’m lying to you
I’ll always be alone
If I’m lying to you
Take your time, if I’m lying to you
I know you’ll find that you believe me
You believe me

Feel the sun on your face and tell me what you’re thinking
Catch the snow on your tongue and show me how it tastes
Take my hand and if I’m lying to you
I’ll always be alone
If I’m lying to you
Take your time, if I’m lying to you
I know you’ll find that you believe me
You believe me

Upside Down

Who's to say
What's impossible
Well they forgot
This world keeps spinning
And with each new day
I can feel a change in everything
And as the surface breaks reflections fade
But in some ways they remain the same
And as my mind begins to spread its wings
There's no stopping curiosity

I want to turn the whole thing upside down
I'll find the things they say just can't be found
I'll share this love I find with everyone
We'll sing and dance to Mother Nature's songs
I don't want this feeling to go away

Who's to say
I can't do everything
Well I can try
And as I roll along I begin to find
Things aren't always just what they seem

I want to turn the whole thing upside down
I'll find the things they say just can't be found
I'll share this love I find with everyone
We'll sing and dance to Mother Nature's songs
This world keeps spinning and there's no time to waste
Well it all keeps spinning spinning round and round and

Upside down
Who's to say what's impossible and can't be found
I don't want this feeling to go away

Please don't go away
Is this how it's supposed to be
Is this how it's supposed to be

Final Justice

Very American, isn't it?

8 marzo

Continuerà a chiamarti.

E poi Thomas Hardy con The Return of the Native e William Somerset Maugham con Of Human Bondage.

Gin a body meet a body comin thro' the rye...

Robert Burns (1759-1796)

1. O, Jenny's a' weet, poor body,
Jenny's seldom dry:
She draigl't a' her petticoatie,
Comin thro' the rye!

Comin thro' the rye, poor body,
Comin thro' the rye,
She draigl't a' her petticoatie,
Comin thro' the rye!

2. Gin a body meet a body
Comin thro' the rye,
Gin a body kiss a body,
Need a body cry?
Chorus:

3. Gin a body meet a body
Comin thro' the glen,

Yet all the lads they smile on me,
When comin' thro' the rye.

Hide and Seek

Where are we?
what the hell is going on?
the dust has only
just begun to form
Crop circles in the carpet
Sinking feeling

Spin me round again
and rub my eyes
this can't be happening
when busy streets a mess with people
would stop to hold their heads heavy

Hide and seek
Trains and sewing machines
All those years
They were here first

oily marks appear on walls
where pleasure moments hung before
the takeover
the sweeping insensitivity
of this
still life

Hide and seek
trains and sewing machines (you won't catch me around here)
Blood and tears
They were here first

mm what d'cha say?
mm that you only meant well, well of course you did
mm what d'cha say?
mm this it's all for the best, of course it is
mm what d'cha say?
that it's just what we need, you decided this?
what d'cha say?
what did you say?

I eat dinner (when the hunger's gone)

Perdindirindina quanto è bello... E pure la canzone...

I eat dinner at the kitchen table
By the light that switches on
I eat leftovers with mashed potatoes
No more candlelight
No more romance
No more small-talk
When the hunger's gone

I eat dinner at the kitchen table
And I wash it down with pie
I eat leftovers with mashed potatoes
No more candlelight
No more romance
No more small-talk
When the hunger stops

Never thought
That I'd end up this way
I who loved the sparks
Never thought my hair'd be turning to grey
Used to be so dark
So dark

No more candlelight
No more romance
No more small-talk
When the hunger's gone
No more candlelight
No more romance
No more small-talk
When the hunger's gone
When the hunger's gone

Never thought
That I'd end up like this
I who love the night
Never thought I'd be without a kiss
No one to turn out the light
Turn out the light

I eat dinner at the kitchen table
By the light of the TV screen
I eat leftovers with mashed potatoes
No more candlelight
No more romance
No more small-talk
When the plate is clean
When the hunger's gone
When the hunger's gone

(Rufus Wainwright)
